WAILEA, Maui, Hawaii - Over the last four weeks, ingenuity and excitement were abundant as the Grand Wailea ‘ohana raised $20,693 for the annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk. The funds will benefit non-profit organizations on Maui.

Adventure activities, Spa Grande treatments, parking spaces and villa auctions were popular fundraising items among team members. Ice cream float, baked good, spam musubi, sushi bento box, and cake sales, and other inventive tactics even including a Latin-dance fitness class called Zoom-Zoom, were creatively used to raise funds for the 2010 Charity Walk.

“We are proud to be able to support the social programs that are critical to our community, especially during this tough economy when they are needed most,” said Matt Bailey, managing director of Grand Wailea. “And we have fun doing it.”

The Grand Wailea ohana had hoped to raise $14,000 for the Charity Walk, but surpassed that goal by more than $6,000.

Since opening its doors in 1991, Grand Wailea has embraced a philosophy of corporate citizenship, becoming an active member of the Maui community.  In 2009, Grand Wailea made more than $1 million in community contributions, provided in a variety of ways, including monetary donations, gift certificates for rooms and food and beverage credits as well as in-kind services.

Grand Wailea is the largest private employer in Maui County. For more information about Grand Wailea, call 808.875.1234 or visit www.grandwailea.com.
