LA QUINTA, Calif. - The advent of Spring heralds fresh beginnings, and in that spirit, Spa La Quinta at La Quinta Resort & Club has emerged with some exhilarating changes, including updated interiors, new Spa and Salon treatment menus and services, in-house salon management - and even special services for pets.

According to the resort's spa director Leslie Johnson, a new elegant design motif sets a soothing stage for inventive new treatments in both the Spa and Salon. Airy, sun-splashed interiors are appointed in an appealing color palette of soft tans and creams with Saltillo tile, dark wood and bronze accents.

A centerpiece of the redo is the reinvented Spa lobby, which now welcomes guests with a handsome wood reception desk embedded with backlit etched mirrors and a 200-gallon saltwater fish aquarium flanked by two large wall fountains as the dramatic backdrop. The retail area has also been refurbished and reconfigured with a dramatic bronze inset ceiling. Crisp cream awnings accentuate the front entrance, which is anchored by the resort's original 1926 urn-style fountain - newly encircled by stepping-stones with inspirational words such as Harmony, Beauty, Love, Peace, Joy, Power, Light and Life.

In addition to fresh interiors, the adjacent Salon is now managed by La Quinta Resort staff, and features newly installed state-of-the-art equipment, including two new shampoo bowls and six new pedicure stations. New products have been introduced as well, including Davines and Hero for hair, SpaRitual for nails and La Bella Donna mineral cosmetic line for makeup.

New Treatment Menus Evoke Desert CalmAlready well-known for its stellar service and attention to detail, Spa La Quinta recently received three SpaFinder Reader's Choice Awards, including "Favorite Spa Professional." New spa treatment menus feature custom massages, skin care and body treatments inspired by indigenous ingredients, as well as special spa experiences for children and young adults. The new salon menu offers hair and nail care; and manicures and pedicures now include Shiatsu or Thai-inspired massage techniques. A sampling of new Spa and Salon treatments:

Seduction of the Senses: A restorative facial choreographed to music evoking the tranquility of the sea. Rich proteins and amino acids for an immediate overall lifting effect, while vitamins C and B12 protect against environmental influences and promote collagen synthesis.

Native elements: Spanish sage and lime essential oils in tandem with Dead Sea salts enliven the senses. Dual hydration from a liquid African shea butter mist and Egyptian geranium moistening cream render the skin smooth as silk.

California Essentials: Organic body brushing awakens the skin and allows total absorption of nutrient-rich avocado lotion. Eucalyptus oil aids in muscle relief, as a focused massage alleviates head, neck and foot tension.

Open Your Eyes Pedicure: Feet are submerged in eucalyptus-infused water to assist in balancing emotions, reducing fatigue and releasing muscle tension. An Indonesian ginger scrub-masque aids circulation and energizes, and Asian-inspired massage techniques combined with a botanical lotion soothe dry and damaged skin.

Pets Pampered TooFor the ultimate in pooch pampering, Spa La Quinta has also introduced canine massage, as part of its many offerings. Pooches will be in "dog heaven," after a session with certified animal massage practitioner Tom Galligan, who has devised a menu of pet massages - including a standard doggy massage and a duet massage for pet and owner - offered in a separate "Canine Suite" for both local residents and resort guests.
